Numismatic collection

In the room containing the Anneville treasure, visitors can discover the numismatic collection.

Currency appeared in Rome at the end of the 4th century BC.
Originally made out of bronze, some coins would later be made out of gold or silver starting from the Punic Wars.

The currency was stamped with the effigy of an emperor, reflecting important moments in his life (marriage, healing, the birth of an heir), and proved to be an effective tool for propaganda.
